When creating my Arrangement series, my process could be described as "painting with objects". The materials that these pieces are made of are ones that have already served their purpose would usually be discarded, such as plastic, cardboard, paper, bubble wrap, foam, and other found objects.
One of the strongest aspects of my work is the deftness and delicacy in the way I arrange found materials into different arrangements or new objects. A careful and quiet touch gives the objects meaning and a sense of preciousness that they otherwise would not have had. Many of my works also have an element of preservation, with plastic containers or sheets of plastic covering a smaller, hidden object within the piece. Not unlike your uncle's valuable action figure that will remain preserved in its plastic box forever! In all of my works, I question my personal relationship to the materials, and invite the viewer to do so as well.
While my Arrangement series has come to an end for now, I am currently working on transferring their delicate look and feel into new pieces that incorporate more traditional painting and mark-making. With this new body of work, I intend to find a happy medium between sculpture and painting, bringing my experience in both mediums together in a happy marriage.
